2018 PENNSYLVANIA AT RISK LIST

On February 12, Preservation Pennsylvania executive director Mindy Crawford announced the four sites added to the Pennsylvania At Risk list. The four sites represent more than 625 years of history in Pennsylvania and are at risk of demolition or physical deterioration. UNDERGROUND RAILROAD HISTORY

Jane Johnson_Abolition Hall_Plymouth Meeting_HovnanianTwo of our 2017 Pennsylvania at Risk sites have important historic connections to the Underground Railroad that are under grave threat. Please help by speaking out or donating to cover the substantial legal fees necessary to challenge the threat.

Abolition Hall, the Corson/Hovenden Homestead and the Plymouth Meeting Historic District
The Friends of Abolition Hall Fund are challenging a developer’s plan to subdivide a nationally-significant, historic 10.45-acre parcel to construct 48 townhouses.

The Friends group is composed of local residents and supporters who believe that the proposed subdivision and townhouse development fails to acknowledge or respect the powerful history of this homestead. Whitemarsh Township should ask the developer for the best possible plan for this site, that will help preserve the rare and nationally-significant places that make the township a desirable place to live.

Mifflin House
Preservation Pennsylvania and the Kreutz Creek Valley Preservation Society (KCVPS), based in Hellam Township, have formed a partnership to preserve the threatened historic Mifflin House in Hellam Township, York County. Preservation Pennsylvania named Mifflin House to its Pennsylvania At Risk list in 2017. A brief was filed in the York County Court of Common Pleas to stop plans by the current owners, the Blessing Family, and their developer partner, Kinsley Equities, LLC, to demolish the historic property overlooking the Susquehanna River. Visit our Mifflin House page for more information and the press release.

guide to historic windowsWhat About the Windows? Help Save Them!

Preservation Pennsylvania is pleased to announce publication of "Considering the Repair, Retrofit, and Replacement of Historic Windows." Useful for HARBS and CLGs, the guide also provides useful information for individual preservationists to advocate for saving historic windows rather than replacing them.

Help spread the word and be an advocate for original windows!

This project is supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office via the Certified Local Government program, and is made possible by cooperation of the Boroughs and HARBs of Gettysburg, Bellefonte and Mercersburg.

(Know of a great window restoration/refit expert? Send us the info at ssmith@preservationpa.org -- thanks!)
